A Specification Language for Lexical Functional Grammars
نویسندگان
چکیده
This paper defines a language L for specifying LFG grammars. This enables constraints on LFG’s composite ontology (cstructures synchronised with f-structures) to be stated directly; no appeal to the LFG construction algorithm is needed. We use L to specify schemata annotated rules and the LFG uniqueness, completeness and coherence principles. Broader issues raised by this work are noted and discussed.

The production of lexical categories (VP) and functional categories (copula) at the initial stage of child L2 acquisition
This is a longitudinal case study of two Farsi-speaking children learning English: ‘Bernard’ and ‘Melissa’, who were 7;4 and 8;4 at the start of data collection. The research deals with the initial state and further development in the child second language (L2) acquisition of syntax regarding the presence or absence of copula as a functional category, as well as the role and degree of L1 influe...
متن کاملGenerating Parallel Multilingual LFG-TAG Grammars from a MetaGrammar
We introduce a MetaGrammar, which allows us to automatically generate, from a single and compact MetaGrammar hierarchy, parallel Lexical Functional Grammars (LFG) and Tree-Adjoining Grammars (TAG) for French and for English: the grammar writer specifies in compact manner syntactic properties that are potentially framework-, and to some extent language-independent (such as subcategorization, val...
متن کاملA Correlational Study of Expectancy Grammar’s Manifestation on Cloze Test and Lexical Collocational Density
The notion of expectancy grammar as a key to understanding the nature of psychologically real processes that underlie language use is introduced by Oller (1979). A central issue in this notion is that expectancy generating systems are constructed and modified in the course of language acquisition. Thus, one of the characteristics of language proficiency is that it consists of such an expectancy...
متن کاملA Constraint-Satisfaction Parser for Context-Free Grammars
Traditional language processing tools constrain language designers to specific kinds of grammars. In contrast, model-based language specification decouples language design from language processing. As a consequence, model-based language specification tools need general parsers able to parse unrestricted context-free grammars. As languages specified following this approach may be ambiguous, pars...
متن کاملMultiVal - towards a multilingual valence lexicon
MultiVal is a valence lexicon derived from lexicons of computational HPSG grammars for Norwegian, Spanish and Ga (ISO 639-3, gaa), with altogether about 22,000 verb entries and on average more than 200 valence types defined for each language. These lexical resources are mapped onto a common set of discriminants with a common array of values, and stored in a relational database linked to a web d...
